is coming to your school!

Model Call January 24th

Hi there! I’m so excited to be photographing your child(ren) for school picture day. Truly, it’s one of my favorite parts of what I do.

I’ve been a portrait photographer for over 10 years, and over the past few years, I’ve especially loved working with kids and teens. Their personalities, quirks, confidence (or sometimes shyness!), and everything in between are what make this work so meaningful to me.

I’m honored to provide your school with fine art school portraits that capture each child just as they are. My goal is to create a more personal, thoughtful experience for both schools and families, one that feels seamless, enjoyable, and memorable for everyone involved.

What are Fine Art School Portraits?

Fine Art School Portraits are a modern, timeless approach to school photography. Gone are the awkward poses, forced smiles, and busy or artificial backdrops. Instead, children are photographed against a simple background, allowing their true personality to take center stage.

Rather than asking children to smile on command, I encourage natural expressions. Kids are free to be themselves — serious, smiley, silly, or somewhere in between. No one is ever forced to smile.

The result? Classic, authentic portraits that feel genuine and that families will treasure for years to come.

What to Expect on Photo Day

On photo day, students will come to the portrait area with their class.
Each child will spend about one minute with me while we chat and take their photos. This relaxed, low-pressure approach helps kids feel comfortable and allows us to capture real expressions rather than rushed or forced smiles.

Sessions are quick, easy, and designed to keep things moving smoothly while still giving each child a moment to shine.

What Should My Child Wear?

Clothing plays a big role in how portraits look, so here are a few simple tips:

  • Avoid large graphics, heavy patterns, and neon colors. These can be distracting and may affect skin tones in photos.
  • Solid colors photograph best and help keep the focus on your child.
  • All portraits are taken from the shoulders up, so the tops are the most essential part of the outfit.

When in doubt, simple and comfortable is always a great choice.

How Can I View My Child’s Images?

Within three weeks of photo day, you’ll receive an email with a link to your school’s proofing gallery.

Each child will have a minimum of 2–5 images (in both color and black & white) placed in an individual album within the school gallery. This makes it easy to view your child’s pictures and place an order.

If you would like your child’s album to be password-protected for additional privacy, simply email me directly at hello@daniellehiltner.com prior to photo day, and I’ll be happy to set that up.

How Will I Order?

Families have the freedom to choose exactly which images they’d like to purchase. Prints, canvas wraps, and digital files are all available directly through the online gallery. Unlike traditional school photography, there are no pre-purchased packages.

All products are sold à la carte, so you only purchase the images you genuinely love. This approach offers complete flexibility and ensures you’re investing in portraits that best capture your child.

How Will I Receive My Purchased Images?

Digital Images

Digital file orders are delivered instantly. As soon as your purchase is complete, download instructions will be sent directly to your email so you can enjoy and share your child’s portraits right away.

Prints & Physical Products

All print and tangible product orders will be delivered directly to your school within three weeks of the gallery closing. The school will then send orders home with students for easy pickup.

Please note: galleries remain open for 14 days only, and all orders must be placed within that time frame.
